Selecting appropriate training environments is crucial for long-lasting progress. Here are some of the things we keep in mind when tailoring training sessions to client dogs.
The right location depends on your dog, where you are in the training process, and what specific behavior you may be targeting.
Select environments where you can manipulate the intensity of your surroundings. We aim to cultivate successful repetitions and provide a safe place for potential failures in the early stages of learning. One of the benefits of our Board & Train program is our ability to utilize the controlled settings around the facility for these early, precise reps.
You want to primarily see successful repetitions of target behavior. Consistent failures are strong indicators that you may not be in the right setup, and risk habituating unwanted behaviors or associations to be re-addressed down the road.
Whether it be through private training or a board & train program, we focus heavily on cultivating the dog's foundational skills which helps them move through a manageable level of challenge in each new place they are exposed to.
